Every weekdays for 2 weeks there will be 3 names appear in Facebook from Boost Juice. If your name is come up, then you’ll get free juice. (Thats the way Boost connect with their customer through Facebook) This event is not comes up often, but when it is happening, customers are waiting for their names to come up so they will get free juice from Boost Juice (who does not want free Juice? :P). In that way, customer will more aware of Boost Juice and Facebook is the top social media that is used among all social media.

Have you ever sign up for any online store such as ASOS or Catch of the day?

Have you ever receive emails from them?

Have you buy because they sent you promotional email?

Usually such brands send emails like this:

The discount is within 24 hours only or only within 2 days and in my experience when I open the website, most of the stocks are gone. Where are the things gone? Have I been too long to open the email? Or hips of people buy before me? YES! Moreover people buy in large amount and when it is online, it is for people around the world to purchase. Like the one I just recently receive, even it is not a discount promotion, I believe many people will purchase because of this email:

Where do you keep your email?

Do you open it regularly?

Usually people have their personal email in their mobile phones and the email they put in email is the one they use when they sign up in online store. A lot of my friends do that and with the promotion through email, people tend to purchase online more often. To be honest, sometimes I feel the emails are annoying, but I never unsubscribe and even get into the promotion. Do you ever experience the same way?

HEY marketers! See the effects of promotion with emails yet? This is based on my friends and my personal experience. Moreover when there are huge discounts, people did not just keep it for themselves, but tell as many people as possible that there is discounts.

A prove that email promotion is very successful is on catch of the day. They just put the promotion and within minutes the goods are low in stock or sold out. It was just few minutes after the emails sent to the members. Usually when I open catch of the day’s email, I never get anything because the goods are sold out.

To conclude what I have talk, promotions through emails are very effective.

hashtags #Digitalmarketing #MonashUniversity

Hi, I just realised few months ago that hashtags is not just use in Instagram. Hashtags is used everywhere. Like literally everywhere. I realised this when there is #ALSicebucketchallenge. The hashtags are not only in Instagram, but it is in Facebook too and twitter as well. You can write anything in hashtags and with has tags you can promote your brand. Hashtags is a very common way of promotion because when 1 hashtags is clicked, then all people who use the same hashtags will appear.

Look at what Kmart done with their advertising and using hashtags.

#bigasssavings and #shipmypants

The way Kmart explain about their promotion of save more with credits to purchase fuel and the way they promote free shipping with the hashtags of #shipmypants. The question is how to promote successfully with hashtags?

1. KISS (Keep It Simple Silly)!

People like simple things because it is easier to remember and because people are lazy, they are not willing to use a long hashtags.

2. Have to be relevant

The hashtags with the messages have to be relevant or else people will not get the message you are trying to tell. Like the message of #shipmypants, it is clear that Kmart want to tell they have delivery service.

3. Plan for the best

A catchy hashtags is not enough for promotion. You have to set a goal what is the hashtags for and where to place the hashtags.

4. Monitor and Engage

What we have plan not always successful, therefore, you have to monitor the promotion. Is there anything wrong with the hashtags if it not successful or is it misplace?

5. Prepare for the worse

Most of the trial will fail. For example the McD hashtags of #McDstories. Instead of telling positive story about McD, people tell the negative story about McD.

Hope my advice useful for you who want to try to make hashtags as promotional strategy.

The use of Social Media

To be honest, every single day I use social media such as Instagram and Path. I rarely use Facebook, maybe 2-3 times a week.

A lot of brand promote using Facebook and Instagram nowadays. The function of Facebook and Instagram as a channel of promotion is successful. Usually I found a lot of new brands in Facebook and Instagram. Furthermore, I also found brands I have not aware of, such as SMT TEATOX.CO. I found this brand as I search through explore on Instagram, therefore the function of Instagram for promotion is very effective nowadays. On the other hand, I found about Batman Market in Facebook. The cost for promoting in the two social media are very low, therefore it fits for any company from small to big company and from low to high budget company.

Not many people aware of Path yet. Path is a social media developed in San Francisco in 2010. I am a user of Path and in my opinion, Path can be use as a promotional strategy. Company can make it as an online diary to inform what are they doing, because Path is a mixture of Facebook, Instagram and Foursquare even video can be uploaded up to 30 seconds. If I can describe path, it is all in one package, a very useful way of promotion.

Screen Shot 2014-10-11 at 20.12.23

The picture above describes who Path is and their values. Relating to their values, simplicity, quality, and privacy, are all covered in the application itself. Based on my experience, Path is very useful. If I miss any moments, Path will email me moments I missed. On the other hand, Path add friends like in Facebook, where you add someone and after the friend request is accepted, each other updates will appear in the timeline. The benefit for the company is the company is able to understand interest of the customers, so it is the free research.

On the other hand, the negative side of Path has negative side too. Path cannot save moments that have been posted for months and people may refuse to accept the friend request.

Mix and match

Hi everyone, its been a while since my last post. I was thinking what should I write to inspire all of you.

So today I came up with an idea of mix and match. The idea I got when I was thinking, I usually follow people on Instagram that post things about food in Melbourne. Today I would like to discuss about the relationship with Instagram and blog (obviously not only instagram used by blogger). So the idea of mix and match is where blogger is endorsing the product of the company. Blogger usually a type of word of mouth (a promotional type) where marketer have no control of. Usually in the Instagram, the blogger writes everything about the product based on their experience and the follower read about the comment.

Screen Shot 2014-09-19 at 12.55.08

This is one of the food blogger. Even though she did not use Instagram, but I just want to show you that she writes about her experience about a product (food and the restaurant). She writes her review there. This type of promotion has its own benefits and loss. The benefits are it is free and people willing to try if it has a good review meanwhile people may refuse to eat there if the restaurant has bad review. Also, the restaurant that has no review from the food blogger may be less attractive to consumer.

Screen Shot 2014-09-19 at 13.03.40Screen Shot 2014-09-19 at 13.03.52

This blog is an example I mention earlier. The writer of this blog have both blog and instagram. Instagram is the smaller version of the blog. So because it is free and has no control of the marketer, the restaurant have to prepare all the time for the upcoming visitors. The seller have to be constant with the products all the time.

There are also called the fashion blogger, where they help the designers to promote their products. The designer clothes are expensive and high quality type of products. So the way of promotion is through the fashion blogger. They review on how to use the clothes properly and where to buy it.

Screen Shot 2014-09-19 at 13.11.35 Screen Shot 2014-09-19 at 13.11.39

This is an example of the fashion blogger, but not only outsider people writes blog about how to where and review about the product, the designer themselves has their own blog in the company website. With the company website, you can verify whether the blogger mention it right or wrong. At the end, everything will be back to the consumers who they trust more.

Learn From the ALSicebucketchallenge

Hi everyone, today I’m not supposed to post anything yet, but I just want to share something I have made.

So this week was due date for my instructional video making. For me, I found that making video is a challenging yet fun thing to do. So I decided to make one. In the video, I mention about ALS association. The way they promote the ALS association and get people to donate is a very successful approach.

This is my video. I made this with my college, Elvina Alvita. I found her blog interesting so I decided to ask her to make the video with me. In this video, we focus on what we can learn from the ALS association, but first of all we explained a little bit about ALS. This is not a perfect video as this is our 1st time making such video. So feel free to comment either on the video or in the blog. 🙂

B2C Brand Awareness Tips

If you open this website click here you will see there is statistic about people around the world uses internet and each and every year the amount of user is increasing. So, for a company that needs brand awareness, social media would be an appropriate channel. The following are the basics you need to do:

1. FACEBOOK and TWITTER is a must! Every company needs at least both of these social media.

As people like your Facebook and follow your Twitter, the updates that you post on your Facebook and Twitter will be appear in their timeline and you will be able to reach out your customers’ friends. Anything you put on your timeline, people who follow or like will be able to see. Facebook and Twitter is a very effective classic way of promotion.

2. Put more information in INSTAGRAM

In Instagram you can update pictures that inform about your brand. Also there are many blogger of different kinds, so they can help you to tell people about your brand in their blog and the follower will more likely to use their products. Use a unique hash tag that will be an icon for your brand. As people familiar with the hashtag, they will be familiar with your brand and increase the awareness. Such as many people talk about #ALSicebucketchallenge. Then now many people are aware about the ALS.

3. As you already have Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, KEEP UPDATE!

Not only have the account, you have to keep updating about what your company is doing. Customers like to know what is going on for your brand and if you have customers that are loyal, customers want to know know about your new products.

4. Make special PROMOTION

With promotion such as make coupons by like and follow, people are more likely to be aware with your brands. It would be appropriate if you use Snapchat. (remember I wrote a blog about Snapchat?) I personally like to get promotion code, especially on online shopping that we have to mention a name and we will get discount.

5. Ask people to be your MEMBER!

Remember what Tobi did with the promotion? Actually by ask people to join as member, you get them to be part of your organisation and then you will get their email. With their email in your data, you can provide them with more updates. Whether you just want to share your new product or you want to make promotion or just remind them about any events coming up.

6. YouTube

There are:

  • More than 1 billion unique users visit YouTube each month
  • Over 6 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube—that’s almost an hour for every person on Earth
  • 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute
  • 80% of YouTube traffic comes from outside the US
  • YouTube is localized in 61 countries and across 61 languages
  • According to Nielsen, YouTube reaches more US adults ages 18-34 than any cable network
  • Millions of subscriptions happen each day. The number of people subscribing daily is up more than 3x since last year, and the number of daily subscriptions is up more than 4x since last year

(From YouTube statistic)

From the statistic, we can assume that YouTube is an effective way to promote because other than you can put advertisement before the actual video, you an also use YouTube to give more information about your brand/organisation.

The media is there, the place to reach your customers is there, then, what are you waiting for?
